Located in the east of Tianjin Municipality, Tanggu is the center of Tianjin Binhai new area. The geographical coordinate is 38°44′～39°13′N and 117°30′～117°46′E. Lying on the west coast of Bohai Sea, Tanggu District, covering an area of 790.2 km2, has a population of 462,000,in 2006. Tanggu District is to the east of Dongli and Jinnan District and is between Dagang District in the south and Hangu District and Ninghe County in the north. There are eleven communities including Xincun, Xinhe, Xingang, Beitang, Hangzhou Road, Xiangyang, Jiefang Road, Sanhuai Road, Dagu, Hujiayuan, Bohai Petroleum, etc., and Xin Cheng Town. It covers 50km from south to north, and 25km from east to west, and has a coast line of 92.16km.Located in the middle area of North China golden coast line, Tanggu District is very close to the capital - Beijing, and is the marine outlet of areas of North and Northwest China. Many rivers, like Chaobai, Yongdingxin, Jiyun, Duliujian and Haihe River, all run across Tanggu District before they go into Bohai Sea. Situated in the east of Tanggu District, the Port of Tianjin is the biggest comprehensive trading port of North China. With the annual 250million tons through put, the Port of Tianjin has trading relations with more than 400 ports in over 180 countries and areas all over the world. Moreover, Jingshan Railway goes through Tanggu District and the network of extensive highways extends in all directions. The expressways, like Jingjintang, Jinbin, Danla and Jintang make the traffic between Tanggu and Beijing, Tianjin as well as other China northern areas more convenient.

The perfect geographical location endows Tanggu District with natural advantages and abundant resources. The large salt pan yields a good amount of “Changlu Salt”, which has become quite famous around the world, also has been the ideal material for the marine chemical industries. Bohai area contains plentiful petroleum and natural gas resource, the geological reserves of petroleum can reach to 1.9billion tons and the natural gas, 70.2billion m3. Boxi Oilfield is the first oil and gas field at sea. The ample geo-thermo source makes a wonderful combination for the “seawater”and “hot spring”,and provides a great potential for the development of the seaside unique medication and tourism. With the beach of 55km, the rich sea foods of Tanggu District have taken a high reputation for a long time, and have got famous all over the country. What’s more important, as the well-developed modern city, Tanggu District still has abundant land resource, and has 188.66 km2 mud flat, which can be used for the development of manufacturing and modern service industry. With the development and opening up of Binhai new area, Tanggu, the center of Binhai new area, whose effect of radiation to the surrounding areas has been intensified, is sure to have a brighter future.
